Swiffer sweeper and broom are definitely great products when it comes to my household cleaning. Broom is of course an inexpensive tool while Swiffer is a smart tool that uses dry or wet cloths pads when sweeping. So, I will answer “is Swiffer better than a broom” based on my experience.
Here I will share all pros and cons of Swiffer and broom. So ultimately, it’s up to you to decide what works effectively on your floor. It’s always a matter of choice which will be worth your money and effort at the end of the day.
Your floor tends to be exposed to a lot of dust, pet hair, or dirt depending on the surrounding environment in which it is located. Also, the surface that is on top of the floor is a crucial fact to be concerned about when choosing your best cleaning method.
Most common types of flooring found in household
- Hardwood
- Tiled
- Concrete
- Carpeted
- Laminated
- Vinyl
You should be cautious about your choice of cleaning method to work it best to do the job. So, it is important to know which cleaning method suits best depending on the surfaces and amounts of dirt or type of mess on the floor.
Here are some insights into cleaning techniques that I used to have. So, you can make a better choice depending on the floor type you have.
Common methods of cleaning that I used in my home
Mopping
Mopping is always ideal on surfaces like Vinyl, laminated, tile or hardwood where dust can be easily deposited.
Dust is more prone to be airborne when you sweep using a broom on dry or hard surfaces. So, they will probably appear on surfaces after some time. So, a microfiber mop can trap dust and small particles easily on the floor.
But if you have got a Swiffer, attach wet cloths to its pads. Now you can use this as a mop to remove minor debris or dust with help of light mopping.
Nevertheless, Swiffer as a mop still cannot do a fair job of removing stubborn stains or dust on the floor. But have you ever been into Swiffer WetJet?
It is one of the Swiffer products that I love to use which is affordable and worth the price. Because Swiffer WetJet as a mop can add a significant difference to my daily mopping tasks.
Swiffer WetJet is a heavy-duty mop to clean dry surfaces faster and better. I recommend you to use it on tile, vinyl, and hardwood for better performance.
What are the Things I Like about Swiffer WetJet?
- The Swiffer mop is safe to use on any type of finished floor.
- A cleaning solution attached to the mop can be used while mopping. So, you don’t have to use a cleaning product separately like when using a regular mop.
- Unlike a regular mop, it traps the dirt and locks it in the pad itself. So that it prevents the trapped dirt from spreading again on the floor.
- A dual spray nozzle filled with a cleaning solution provides a powerful cleaner to remove stubborn dirt and dust thoroughly.
- It does not leave any streaks or residue after cleaning but a nice shine on the floor.
- Disposable pads can be easily replaced with extra pads provided in the starter kit.
- It is really easy and quick to assemble the parts together.
- Unlike other cleaning products, the scent of the cleaning solution is not harsh.
- Thick pads of Swiffer WetJet are better absorbent to wipe out even liquid spills easier.
What I Don’t Like About Swiffer WetJet?
However, Swiffer WetJet cannot be used on the carpeted, unfinished, or textured floor.
How much does it cost?
It is affordable for a reasonable price. Even the cleaning solution costs less whenever I need to buy a refill.
Sweeping
Sweeping provides me with better service, especially on hard surfaces such as tile or concrete or rough floors.
I used to do sweeping by regular broom or Swiffer which are very common household tools. But you have to differentiate those to identify what worked best on your floor.
Old fashioned broom
Imagine you are having dry leaves, soil, or mud on your floor which is rough. So, grab your old-fashioned broom, and a dustpan is better to wipe away from them.
Even if it is your old-fashioned broom, it does a fair job much better compared to the Swiffer sweeper.
You know that it is one of the most traditional methods of cleaning. But you should have a better broom to sweep away the dust easily from the floor.
But I had to question myself after seeing dust or dirt escalate in corners or surfaces on the floor after the use of a broom.
So, I used a better follow-up by Swiffer, vacuum cleaner, or mop to remove the rest of the dirt from the dry floor. So of course, the broom is not as effective as you think to get rid of dusty floors.
Now you will not be disappointed again holding your broom to remove dust and telling yourself that my Swiffer is better than this dud!
Swiffer sweeper
Swiffer is a great tool that is a unique two-in-one solution as a sweeper and a mop using its dry or wet cloths. But if I have got a big mess like a lot of dry dirt or debris on my floor, I used a broom or vacuum cleaner first to do their job.
Then Swiffer sweeper can deal with dust or small dirt or even pet hair better than a broom using its dry cloths. But keep in your mind. It cannot be used on carpet or rug.
Vacuuming
The vacuum cleaner is much better to use than a broom where sweeping does not help to clean the dirt or debris. So, I used it on carpeted floors as it absolutely works best on them.
But if you have got dry and rough surfaces around the house broom or Swiffer can do a better job. So, it is better not to invest in a vacuum cleaner where a broom or another sweeper helps you to get rid of dirt completely.
Is Swiffer better than a broom – Final thoughts
Having a broom and dustpan is better because that helps everyday cleaning depending on the surface and amount of dirt that you got. Because my broom does a better job on dry or rough surfaces such as a garage in my home.
But the broom is not a replacement for the Swiffer sweeper. My Swiffer sweeper is always ideal for sweeping and light mopping along with its dry or wet cloths attached.
So, if you got a broom and Swiffer, I recommend Swiffer. Because it is better than this dud to get rid of dust and light dirt on my floor without a doubt.
